LAVAUNE WETMORE BOUNDLESS PLAYGROUND

POSTED: JUN 10, 2008

Children of all abilities have opportunities for play and challenge at the LaVaune Wetmore Boundless Playground. LaVaune challenges you to donate today to help maintain this unique play space so it continues to be accessible to all children. She will match your gift dollar for dollar, up to $25,000 total. The boundless playground provides accessibility for individuals of all abilities and disabilities including children who use wheelchairs, walkers, or braces, children with visual impairments or hearing losses, or children who are developmentally delayed. Boundless Playground

The Boundless Playground has unique features that make it fun for individuals with all abilities and disabilities. The goal of the playground continues to be to provide a place for children of all abilities to play side-by-side. The Boundless Playground helps children do this by having:

  • Different types and styles of swings with easy access.
  • Our "trike" path goes around the play areas and goes up to each play component for access for children using wheelchairs, walkers, or riding toys.
  • Pour-in-place rubber surfacing offers accessible surfacing....no chips or sand in the fall zones on our playground!
  • Sensory rich activities include colorful structures, flags and flowers; fragrant landscaping, bridges; textured and curved paths; bells and chimes.
  • A specially designed ship glider holds two children using wheelchairs and two children on a bench seat, two of whom get to "steer" the boat.

The Boundless Playground is open to all children in the community. When you are outdoors, think of children's laughter as they climb, roll, and run among the adapted swings, landscaping and playground equipment. Your gift will ensure that children have a safe, clean place to feel sand in their toes, feel the exhilaration of wind on their faces as they swing, and hear the giggles of friends as they slip down the slides.

Children's Care Hospital & School raised over $34,000 with the playground challenge on top of the $25,000 LaVaune donated for the match!
