POSTED: MAY 21, 2014
The LifeScape Center for the Arts and Flutter Productions, in association with the Suzie Cappa Arts Center, are proud to announce auditions for Ascent, a mixed-ability theatrical dance production by national award-winning Flutter Productions. Ascent will be produced by LifeScape, funded by the South Dakota Arts Council and Children’s Care Auxiliary, and supported by the University of Sioux Falls.

Auditions are Friday, June 13, 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 14, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and will be held at LifeScape (formerly Children’s Care) Gymnasium, 2501 W. 26th Street, Sioux Falls.

Flutter Productions is coming to Sioux Falls for this one-time, special theatrical event. Actors and dancers of all ages and abilities are invited to audition for Ascent, written and directed by Heather Pickering and choreographed by Andrea Schaefer – the national award-winning team from Flutter Productions. Flutter Productions creates original pieces of movement-based theatre that allow all performers the opportunity to soar. Ascent will feature a large cast of dancers and actors of all ages and abilities, and tells the story of a boy who saves his kingdom by flying a kite to the sun to bring back light and warmth.

No prepared audition is required. Please come dressed and prepared for basic movement. Ascent will feature performers with and without disabilities – challenging the perception of what people are capable of achieving in this world. Flutter Productions brings together artists from different experiences to work with a new creative community in order to create beautiful, heartfelt, and inspirational productions.

Rehearsals are Monday, July 7, through Thursday, July 24

There are two performances: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 at the Jeschke Auditorium, University of Sioux Falls. Ticket cost is $10, with online ticket purchasing available July 7th at or at (605) 444-9507.

Volunteers are also needed to work backstage and on production crews. If interested, please contact Jamie Richardson at 605-444-9507 or by email at
