CONGRATULATIONS TO ALLENE FLORA, EMBE EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR!POSTED: MAY 16, 2013
The awards ceremony was held April 25th at the Washington Pavilion, sponsored by Avera McKennan. A total of 67 women were nominated in nine categories. "Tribute to Women is about honoring the good work of area women and recognizing the impact women have in our community," said Laurie Knutson, CEO of EmBe. Allene was raised with seven siblings on a farm near Hardwick, MN, and has taught at Children's Care since 2008. She has been a special educator and behavior consultant for over 20 years. Her classroom here includes older students learning vocational skills, along with traditional academic lessons. "It is a pleasure to come to work when I am surrounded by students who inspire, staff who support, and parents who believe," said Allene. "A teachers job is to discover the things that make a student want to learn and find the materials/methods that bring the lessons to life. Life is too short to waste any opportunity for learning!" Allene was nominated by Dr. Vicki Isler, School Principal and Clinical Director. A special project for her classroom was raising $5500 for a year-end class trip this spring to Duluth and Ely, MN. Allene's commitment to children has included opening her home, along with husband Doug, to 109 foster children in the past 17 years. Allene and Doug have been married 36 years, and have three grown children and four grandchildren. Congrats, Allene, and thank you for all you do for children!
